Born in 2022, the SYEMF – Sassari Youth Early Music Festival is a project dedicated to promoting young musical talents through live concert experience. The festival focuses mainly on the repertoire of early music and historically informed classical music, a field that in recent years has been experiencing a significant rediscovery in the Sassari area and throughout Sardinia.

The SYEMF is the natural continuation of the training activity of the Cristóbal Galán Early Music Academy, which since March 2022 has organised courses, masterclasses and advanced programmes for young musicians from Sardinia, Italy and abroad.

From its very first edition the festival has offered concrete opportunities for public performance to many young performers, hosting soloists, chamber ensembles, duos, trios and orchestral groups, up to the string orchestra. The main goal is to let participants face the audience and the professional dynamics of the concert, a fundamental element in the artistic growth of every musician.

One of the most significant aspects of the project is support for young artists at the beginning of their careers. Particularly talented musicians often find it hard to enter concert seasons and professional series precisely because of their young age and the lack of an already established concert record. A paradox arises: to be invited to perform, a documented artistic path is required, yet building that experience is difficult without concrete opportunities to perform.

SYEMF was also born to answer this need, offering young musicians real and qualified opportunities to perform before an audience, gain professional experience and gradually build their artistic résumé. In this way the festival contributes not only to the individual growth of the participants, but also to the training of a new generation of performers specialised in the early music repertoire.

Over the years the festival has become a reference point for the promotion of early music among younger generations, fostering the meeting of teaching, musicological research, performance practice and cultural outreach in the region.
